Hiking Tips
Everybody enjoys a good hike from time to time. The autumn months bring crisp air and wonderful views, but you should always follow some basic guidelines to ensure the best possible experience. Here are a few tips to help ensure your hike goes well:
- Check weather conditions and forecast.
- Never hike alone. Always go with a friend.
- Take plenty of water. Staying hydrated will help maintain your energy level.
- Pack high energy snacks like granola, breakfast cookies, energy or soy bars.
- Pace yourself. Don't hike too quickly. Save your energy.
- Stay on trails unless you have excellent navigational skills.
- Dress in layers, it's better to take layers off to cool down than to under-dress and be cold.
- In order to reduce chilling, long underwear and other under garments are now being made of polyester-type materials to remove moisture away from the skin.
- Fleece is a good second layer for trapping your body's warmth.
- Outer layers vary depending on conditions. Wind resistant and water resistant outer layers should provide convenience and ease of movement.
- Always be prepared with rain gear.
- Quality footwear is important for any activity. Sneakers are fine, if you have hiking boots those will be fine also.
- DO NOT WEAR BRAND NEW SNEAKERS OR BOOTS, because they may cause blisters.
Following these tips will help ensure your hike will be enjoyable!
